Read about Biostatistician Grant Smith at the Children's Diabetes Centre.

Grant Smith

Biostatistician

After completing his master's degree at The University of Western Australia in 2005, Grant joined The Kids Research Institute Australia.  Prior to commencing with the Diabetes Research Group in 2015, Grant worked with a team specialising in policy-and practice-relevant research in which he conducted a variety of projects for the WA Department of Health. These projects spanned a range of child health-related outcomes; from identifying effects of maternal gestational diabetes on neonates to quantifying the 15-year long-term outcomes of a parenting program. In this role he employed a variety of research designs (epidemiological and clinical, cross-sectional and longitudinal, using survey and routinely collected administrative data) and utilised a diverse range of statistical modelling techniques.

Grant's interests lie in modelling longitudinal data, utilising linked population-based datasets, translation of research into policy and practice, epidemiology and management of type 1 diabetes, and childhood social, emotional and cognitive development.

Grant is currently working as a biostatistician with the Children's Diabetes Centre and a research psychologist with WA Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
