The Children’s Diabetes Centre’s (CDC) annual workshop provided a great opportunity for diabetes researchers to get together in the one venue to showcase their work recently.
The attendees included researchers from The Kids Research Institute Australia and Perth Children’s Hospital, collaborators from interstate paediatric and local adult hospitals, and parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes.
Leading health services and systems expert Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite, from Macquarie University’s Australian Institute of Health Innovation, kicked off the workshop with a presentation on implementation science, specifically, how to turn research knowledge into effective patient-centred practice.
Another highlight of the event, now in its fourth year, was brainstorming ways in which translation could be applied to the team’s research and how new technologies could improve patient care.
Presentations looked at diet and exercise, mental health and wellbeing, schools support, epidemiology, economic frameworks, data evaluation, technology and ways to translate diabetes research into practice.
The team will produce an external stakeholder report on the workshop.
The CDC will hold a public forum for its diabetes community on March 29 and 30 next year so please save the date.
