New school year

Good planning and communication between families and schools is very important to ensure children are safe and supported. With the new school year underway, hear from our Social Work team with their top tips on managing the start of a new school year.

Starting back at school can be an anxious time for parents, carers and children. For families living with T1D it presents added challenges and considerations.

We asked senior social worker Kirsty, from the Diabetes and Endocrinology team, for some top tips for settling in to the school year:

Five tips for getting ready for school:

  1. Be T1D Prepared for school return
  2. Have necessary supplies ready
  3. Think about the whole day before and after school included
  4. Agree on a lunchbox labelling system
  5. Talk about Type 1 diabetes, ensure you child /teen feels confident in wearing their CGM and pump or doing pen injections at school.

The Diabetes in Schools progam have also provided a checklist that might come in handy for you.
