Ashlyn's gold medal run

Big shout out to one of our regular research participants, Ashlyn, who goes to show that type 1 diabetes is no obstacle to achieving success in top-level sport.

Big shout out to one of our regular research participants, Ashlyn, who goes to show that type 1 diabetes is no obstacle to achieving success in top-level sport.

Ashlyn recently won gold medals in the WA Little Athletics State Road Walking Championships 2km race (under-13s) and the 2020 Athletics West State Road Walking Championships 3km race for the race-walking event (under-14s).

She also managed a top 10 finish in the 3km cross country race at the WA Little Athletics 2020 Cross Country Championships (under-13s).

Ashlyn was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2018. She said she had never let her condition stop her from doing what she loved and that exercising helped to manage her diabetes.

“Never give up what you love doing and always be proud that you have come this far with type 1 diabetes,” she said.

Well done Ashlyn!
