Clinic update for Regional and Rural

Clinic update for regional and rural patients

Regional and Rural clinics

We know many families request or benefit from additional interaction with the clinical team beyond our in-person visits every 3 months. In an ongoing effort to improve access to care and support diabetes management for our regional and rural families, we are now allocating time for extra support in the form of Telehealth appointments, accessible from your home.

These will be available to those who attend the following clinics:

  • Albany
  • Bunbury
  • Busselton
  • Geraldton
  • Kalgoorlie
  • Karratha
  • Northam

*We are currently reviewing our team's capacity to add other sites to this list, such as our outer metro clinics. We hope to update you on that in the near future.

These appointments are designed to be convenient and accessible, leverage the lessons we learnt during the pandemic about how to use Telehealth in diabetes care, and most importantly to support families at times when diabetes might be extra challenging.

These ‘virtual clinics’ are generally scheduled 4-6 weeks after the usual in person appointment where you can work closely with your usual Diabetes Educator, Dietitian and Social Worker (i.e. there will be an additional 4 Telehealth follow-up clinics per year to go with the 4 Face to Face clinics provided to all).  The number of appointments offered will be capped allowing us extra time to work alongside you and help troubleshoot any issues.  Appointments will be prioritised for those who require extra support; however, you are welcome to request one if you feel you would benefit.

Please note these clinics will not replace the need to attend your usual face to face appointment, but rather are a complement to the gold standard of frequent face to face care for all people with diabetes.
