Congratulations to a number of our Rio Tinto Children's Diabetes Centre researchers who have recently received external travel grants to attend and present at leading international diabetes conferences.

Four of our Centre researchers Alex Tully, Peter Delaney, Dr Sabrina Binkowski and Jane Makin were awarded travel grants from the Australia and New Zealand Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes (ANZSPED) and Breakthrough T1D, to attend the 2025 ANZPED Annual Scientific Meeting in Port Douglas this week.

The team presented on the following research areas:

Alex Tully on “Understanding parents views of using CGM in their child with pre-symptomatic type 1 diabetes”.

Peter Delaney on “Revisiting hypoglycaemia detection and symptoms in children with Type 1 diabetes on contemporary therapy in Western Australia” and “Parents and children choose their own glucose thresholds for hypoglycaemia treatment despite standardised clinical advice”

Jane Makin on “DiabHQ:  A scalable, data driven ecosystem for paediatric diabetes care and research”

Dr Sabrina Binkowski, who was awarded the ANZSPED $20,000 research grant award at the 2023 ANZSPED conference, presented the findings on her Model of Care research project, "Supporting CALD families".

Recently, Dr Anna Boggis, a Postdoctoral Research Officer for the Diabetes Mental Health team, attended the Psychosocial Aspects of Diabetes (PSAD) Annual Meeting in Romania thanks to a PSAD Travel Fellowship Award, in recognition of her contribution to the psychosocial aspects of diabetes field.

At the conference, Dr Boggis presented her research around routine psychosocial screening and evaluating the measurement tools currently in use for children and teens living with type 1 diabetes.

Congratulations to all the researchers on their grants and presentations.
