The Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre; a JDRF Global Centre of Excellence announces inaugural funding for researchers dedicated to type 1 diabetes.

The 2022 recipients of the Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre; a JDRF Global Centre of Excellence seed funding grants have been awarded to four emerging researchers from across Australia - Dr Michael Huang, Dr Ann Carrigan, Dr Ella Zomer and Dr Sabrina Binkowski.   

These grants, the first of their kind for the Centre, are designed to encourage new research activities and develop new research projects and partnerships.

Congratulations goes to:

Dr Michael Huang, a senior research fellow at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney, for his project determining effects of early insulin pump vs. multiple daily injection (MDI) therapy on novel vascular risk factors in a children with T1D.

Dr Sabrina Binkowski,a diabetes researcher at Telethon Kids Institute. Her project is personalising advice to reduce hyperglycaemia in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes: the role of gastric emptying.

Dr Ella Zomer, a senior research fellow at Monash University. Her project will be exploring the productivity and educational impacts of T1D.

Dr Ann Carrigan, a research fellow at Macquarie University. Her project will be a mixed methods evaluation of T1D services in Far North Queensland, Australia: What works, what does not work, and why?
