Supporting your child/teen’s digital journey is important. With the increasing online world and the addition of technology with T1D, it is essential we are doing all we can to guide this journey. This includes guiding them through safe online practices but to also be vigilant about your own cybersecurity awareness. Your knowledge and habits can directly influence the safety of your entire family.
Here are some steps you can take to protect your family online:
- Stay Informed About Cyber Threats at https://www.cyber.gov.au/
- Verify Before You Click - Always double-check the sender’s email address, the URL of a website, or the legitimacy of an offer before clicking any links. If something feels off or too good to be true, it probably is.
- Teach Your Children Safe Online Practices - Have conversations and make an online agreement with them.
- Implement Strong Passwords and Two-Factor Authentication - Discuss using Passphrases rather than Passwords.
- Keep Your Devices Updated - Cybercriminals exploit security flaws in outdated software, so staying current helps keep your devices safe.
