The Dexcom G6 is a CGM system that requires no calibrations – meaning finger pricks are not required except in special circumstances.

Frances Leclercq, Clinical Nurse Specialist (Diabetes Technology) at PCH, said the early access program is available for newly diagnosed patients at the hospital and for children who fit the criteria.

“For those who are eligible, please keep a look out in your email as you will shortly receive information from us outlining the steps to receive your Dexcom G6,” she said.

“At this stage, due to the limited number of G6 sensors and transmitters available, only those children who meet the criteria can access a G6.”

Your child will be eligible for this early access program if they are:

  • 10 years or younger (in line with “Category A” of the NDSS subsidy eligibility)
  • Currently using the Dexcom G5 CGM system
  • Not using a Tandem t:slim pump (these children already have subsidised access to Dexcom G6 through the NDSS)

Ongoing consumables will be supplied directly through PCH until the G6 is subsidised through the NDSS.

If your child is eligible and you don’t receive the email from us in the coming week, please contact us at PCH.DiabetesCGM@health.wa.gov.au
