After nearly two-and-a-half years in sunny Perth, Dr Tarini Chetty is headed back home to Scotland. Before she departs our shores, we asked her a few questions about her time in WA.

Job title: Fellow in paediatric endocrinology and diabetes

Where do you come from? Edinburgh in Scotland. Before I came to Perth I was working in the diabetes and endocrinology team at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

What drew you to Perth? The opportunity to be part of an internationally-recognised team leading the way in diabetes research - and the sunshine of course!

Areas of expertise? I am passionate about helping children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes to exercise safely and strive to do this through my work in both the clinic and research.

Why diabetes? Working in the field of diabetes is never boring! Through my work in the clinic I learn about the many day-to-day challenges faced by families living with Type 1 Diabetes. It is these stories that tell us what we need to explore in our research to help improve diabetes care. It is really rewarding to transform peoples’ real experiences into new and improved diabetes treatments.

Most memorable part of the job? Having lots of fun at the PMH Diabetes WA kids’ camp in April, especially joining in the rock star disco!

What you will miss most? The team! I am really going to miss all the inspirational colleagues, families and young people I have met during my time in Perth - oh and the sunshine of course!
