Major funding to transform diabetes management

Congratulations to Professor Liz Davis and her team at the Rio Tinto Children's Diabetes Centre, who have received significant digital health grants through the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund.

Researchers from the Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre, a JDRF Global Centre of Excellence, have been awarded funding through The Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund for their work to transform clinical management of diabetes in WA by leveraging the power of data.

This week, Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson announced Professor Elizabeth Davis, co-director of the Children’s Diabetes Centre at The Kids Research Institute Australia and head of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Department at Perth Children’s Hospital, and her team, were awarded more than $460,000 to develop a data-driven diabetes care model to deliver more efficient and targeted clinical care.

Informed by consumer and clinician input, and utilising advanced data analytics to understand distinct patient profiles, the project team aims to develop and trial alternative approaches to clinical diabetes management that target the specific needs of different paediatric patient groups.

“Shifting from routine to personalised, proactive care will help achieve the goal that the right treatment reaches the right patient at the right time,” Professor Davis said.

Medical Research Minister Stephen Dawson said the grants were being awarded to projects that enhance digital health capabilities that improve the health and wellbeing of Western Australians.
