New study: Growing Up With T1D

We are conducting a research study to better understand what it is like to grow up with T1D from the perspective of young adults, and what support could make a difference for future young people receiving paediatric diabetes care.

HELP IMPROVE DIABETES CARE:

By sharing your experience of growing up with T1D.

Growing up with type 1 diabetes (T1D) shapes our mental health in many ways, paricularly our relationships with food and how we feel about our body.

Young adults with T1D have told us these experiences are common, but not always well recognised or supported. Many also describe making sense of these experiences
later in life.

Inspired by these stories, we are conducting a research study to better understand what it is like to grow up with T1D from the perspective of young adults, and what support could make a difference for future young people receiving paediatric diabetes care.

WHO CAN BE INVOLVED?

  • we are looking for participants aged 18-40 years,
  • who were diagnosed with T1D before the age of 18 years,
  • currently live in Australia
  • And can participate online.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

  • a 60 to 90-minute 1:1 online interview exploring your personal experiences
  • an optional 60 to 90-minute online focus group (with others) exploring ideas of improving care
  • your will be reimbursed $50 per sessions for your times (up to $100 in total).

WHAT MIGHT WE TALK ABOUT?

Topics might include:

  • mental health and T1D
  • experiences of food, eating and body image
  • experiences of care and support
  • what helped or didn't
  • ideas for impreoving care

*We want to hear from people across the full range of experiences - whether things felt challenging, manageable or somewhere in between.
