Today is International Nurses Day, a day to celebrate and recognise the vital contribution nurses make to our health, our research and our communities.
Here at the Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre at the Kids Research Institute Australia and PCH, our team of nurses Alex Tully, Niru Paramalingam, Julie Dart, Pratima Kattel Adhikari, Lauren Haddow and Niamh Cannon play an important role in all the research and clinical trials we do to improve the lives of children and young people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
To celebrate International Nurses Day, we asked Clinical Research Nurse Manager Alex Tully a few questions to find out what she does and why she does it.
How long have you been working with the Diabetes Team?
I have been with the team for 11 years.
What does your role involve?
I help coordinate trials, guide participants through the research process, and make sure everything is done safely and ethically.
It’s not always easy, I'm constantly learning and problem-solving but it’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work I do helps to improve lives of children and their families living with T1D.
What do you like most about being a nurse?
I love the mix of science and compassion, the attention to detail, the collaboration, and the chance to keep learning.
*As well as being a clinical research nurse, Alex is also a midwife one day a week.
