Self-efficacy groups 2020

Perth Children’s Hospital’s Diabetes Service has released the dates for its self-efficacy groups for 2020.

Perth Children’s Hospital’s Diabetes Service has released the dates for its self-efficacy groups for 2020.

The groups focused on promoting a child, adolescent’s and family’s self-efficacy – essentially the confidence one had to carry out a certain task or behaviour in managing diabetes and problem solving in difficult situations.

The groups are designed for young people (children/teens) and families who would like support for the ongoing adjustments to a type 1 diabetes diagnosis.

The groups are run by psychology and clinical nurse specialists (mental health), in collaboration with UWA Clinical Psychology  Students, diabetes social workers, diabetes nurse educators, diabetes dietitians and diabetes teachers.

In addition, a parents/carers group is run alongside the children’s group which aims to provide psychosocial, education and peer support. Coffee and tea are also provided.

Each group involves four sessions run on alternate weeks.
