JDRF Type One Summit
The Rio Tinto Children's Diabetes Centre were invited to attend this year's JDRF Type One Summit in Sydney where the T1D community came together to "share knowledge and gain strength and inspiration from others in the T1D community - JDRF Australia".
The Centre was a stallholder along with other diabetes technology and research representatives and we heard from guest speakers such as parenting expert, Maggie Dent, AFL star, Paddy McCartin and Exercise Physiologist, Sam Rooney. We had the opportunity to share the research we are currently doing and were joined by a researcher from one of our partnering sites, Macquarie University.
It was also a great opportunity for the Centre to recruit more Consumer Representatives to join our national Community and Consumer Involvement Committee who guide our researchers to ensure lived-experience is considered in their projects.
Parents, children and their families were also asked what their big research ideas were, what challenges they were facing and what would they like to see changed when managing their or their child's condition? We had some wonderful, heartfelt and honest ideas shared with us and the Centre will use these for potential future projects.
We would like to thank JDRF Australia for inviting us along and look forward to participating in next year's event.
