News from the Diabetes Service:
We've updated our clinical diabetes patient management system to a new state-of-the art system that can access critical information in real-time during clinic.
WANdiab (Western Australian Network for Diabetes) is the new web-based system that can be accessed anywhere on the WA Health network, allowing clinicians to access critical information at any time.
It is automatically updated with pathology results and appointment data, saving clinicians valuable time and ensuring that they have access to up-to-date data at all times. It also includes calculators and data visualisation tools that help clinicians to provide optimal care.
Having an application to capture all this data allows clinicians to better treat patients and improve care. Being able to capture information for the life of the patient allows researchers to determine if changes to care as a child/early adult leads to a reduction of complications later in life.
Planned extension of WANdiab to adult public hospitals in the near future will ensure continuity of care for WA children living with diabetes. Being in one database makes transitioning patients from PCH to one of the adult hospitals a much easier process.
