PhD Scholarship opportunities

The Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre; A JDRF Global Centre of Excellence, (“the Centre”) based at The Kids Research Institute Australia and Perth Children’s Hospital in Western Australia, is an integrated clinical and research centre conducting research into childhood diabetes.

The Centre aims to improve the lives of young people living with diabetes by encouraging new and innovative research, researchers and translation ideas and projects.

Applications are open for two types of PhD scholarships to support PhD students pursuing type 1 diabetes-related research in line with the Centre research objectives;

  1. Top Up scholarships (AUD $15,000 pa/person for up to 3 years) which provides additional support to exceptional PhD students who have been awarded a Research Training Program scholarship or equivalent. Successful applicants will receive AUD$15,000 per annum for up to three years full-time, consisting of AUD$2,000 for research-related costs and AUD$13,000 to be used at their discretion.

  2. Talent and Capacity Building scholarships (AUD $5,000 pa/person for up to 3 years) to build capacity, encourage dissemination of research findings and facilitate exchange of skills. This may include (but not is not limited to): conference registration, travel and accommodation cost for conference attendance, journal fees for publications and travel and accommodation cost for exchange experience to another Centre Collaborator’s site.
